hi. my name is karli and i'm addicted to the holidays.
i can't help it...and i know i'm not the only one, so it makes it easier to accept.
i mean, i'm that girl that put up most of her christmas decorations before thanksgiving.
but really, it's something about the decorations, the traditions, cozy clothing, delicious food and treats...but above and beyond these goodies...i'm particularly thankful that i have two daughters this holiday season to start making memories and establishing traditions with.
my farmer and i have been talking about family traditions before we even thought about having children; and now that they are both here...well...let the memory-making begin.
as a young gal, holidays were a big deal full of family, food, and fun...
several weeks before christmas my parents would crank the garth brooks christmas album in the tape player and we would decorate our tree while munching on appetizers.
every christmas eve my sister and i would put on some sort of matching holiday dress and we would head to christmas eve mass. after mass we would make our way back to the house where we were allowed to open one present.
and every christmas we enjoyed monkey bread for breakfast. then, as a family, each of us would take turns opening one gift at a time in a systematic order. stockings were always opened last.
traditions. these are traditions i'll never forget and give me the warm-fuzzies.
as i was saying...i'm beyond excited to start establishing these traditions with my two best gals and my farmer. my farmer who works so hard during the warm months for us so we can enjoy his time off during the cold ones.
have i mentioned how thankful i am for my farmer? he makes our family's world go 'round.
and now that our family of two has expanded to a family of four, we can only hope that the traditions and memories we make over the coming years stick in our girl's memories and encourage them to carry on the warmth and love the holidays bring to our lives each year.
i'm partnering with New York Life's Keep Good Going campaign in hopes that you will share a photo promoting the good things in life. are you baking something delicious for your family for the holidays? are you going to go look at christmas lights? did you have a family photo session for your christmas card? share the good in life!

For some reason, this post makes me want to cry (hormones?) But in a good way. In a cozy, happy way. I have such wonderful memories from holidays when my sister and I were little - I can only hope to recreate them to some degree for my own kids. Kaye and Sawyer are sure to have great memories with amazing parents like you guys! :)
ReplyDeletewe love to decorate the tree and go to a Christmas production at a local church as well as Christmas dinner at my grandmas!
ReplyDeleteLove these charitable Christmas posts - really is the season to be giving! I've started our own advent calendar this year - such fun to be able to pick a fun activity or treats each day - our little SJ is so excited for it x
ReplyDeleteMiss Karli, these photos are pure magic! You are so blessed, and it's wonderful to hear about your family traditions growing up. Christmas music by The Carpenters and Elvis (on tape, naturally! ) always bring me back to childhood. I hope you're enjoying the first few days of the holiday season!
ReplyDeleteI am loving all of these pictures, great memories! We love decorating our tree together and last year started a new one where we ride around the neighborhood and check out the Christmas lights.
ReplyDeleteI know it sounds silly, but one of my favorite Christmas traditions is going for Chinese food on Christmas Day!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I work for a Food Bank so I love that this is benefiting Feeding America! :)
Our traditions growing up were similar. My sister and I didn't wear matching dresses but we did get to open one present on the Eve. Then we had cinnamon rolls for breakfast and took turns opening presents - only we opened our stockings first!!!
ReplyDeleteWe love decorating the tree together.

Hi. My name is Katie and I don't like to decorate. Please, please come over and decorate my house as pretty as your farm. Oh, and your family is like the cutest thing I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteThat is all.
xo
Growing up, after any big dinner at my grandmother's house, we would always make homemade pizza for dinner. Her logic was, "Well what crazy person would want the same meal twice in one day!?" Where my mother's logic was, "What crazy person wants to prepare two meals in one day?" Although i see where my ma is coming from (don't tell her that), i love it and have kept it going.
ReplyDeleteIf you're still really pushing the leftovers, make a thanksgiving pizza with gravy, turkey, mashed potatoes, and some cranberry sauce for that sweet and salty combo...wow...that sounds terrible!
